My opinion is that Leard will be out for the rest of the season. The status of the kicking game really worries me. We have to be able to make field goals.

Back to reality.[As the final seconds tick off the Auburn-Tennessee game....] I suppose I should have taken my own advice. In the wake of Auburn's thrashing of LSU I was cautioning everybody not to start reserving their SEC Championship tickets just yet. In the wake of the Ole Miss defeat and tonight's loss, it looks like I was right (dang it). We're capable of some great things on the gridiron, but don't count on it. That's especially true now that our starting quarterback's out for a significant amount of time, and our starting center is out. Who knows, if those two are healthy, we might be 5-0 now. Not likely, but it's possible. I really don't have much to say right now, but I thought I should update the page since the LSU bloodletting has obviously faded into history. So just a couple of thoughts on the past two games: Ole MissWe had our chances to win this game. Ole Miss just wanted it more (and I can't say I blame them). After it became obvious that our offense couldn't move the ball when Leard got knocked out of the game, I figured it was over. When we missed the field goal at the end of regulation, I knew Ole Miss was going to win. TennesseeWe were never in this game. The initial turnover to start the game didn't even really matter all that much; if we could have put some points on the board in the first half, we might have made it closer. But this one had all the marks of an overmatched team led by a rookie quarterback--lots of turnovers, lots of flags. We still have the chance to make a good season of it, but it's going to be tough. And let me repeat: all I really care about this year is beating Alabama. |
Previous thoughts. Some more previous thoughts. Some thoughts on the AU-Appy State game. Some thoughts on the LSU game.
